Three plugs for Philly in January’s issue, chronicling the 100 tastes of 2008. Updates on star chef happenings comprise #18-#22, and we’ve landed two mentions. Everyone’s favorite silver-coiffed Frenchman, Eric Ripert, lands the #20 spot with a few words about his restaurants in the Ritz, serving “American dishes like fish burgers” and opening in May, according to F&W. Fish burgers… Seriously? Jose Garces grabs #22 for Mercat a la Planxa, opening in the Blackstone Hotel in his native Chi-town. Don’t get too cozy, Jose. You might be from Illinois, but the Illadelph has adopted you as our own and we’re willing to fight for joint custody. Not-even-open-yet Maia in Villanova scored a mention for #64, “Grown-Up Jam.” Bros Terence and Patrick Feuy’s Meyer lemon-coriander jam is apparently the bee's knees. Some choices on the menu at this restaurant/market that we can't wait to try: foie gras-and-barbequed eel terrine, smoked crayfish tartelette, and grilled poussin.
