Today is a good day, a very good day. Having popped over to Taproom on 19th for lunch, we noticed the darling pub of the DSP is pouring the very awesome Harpoon Winter Warmer. We first savored this coppery ale in Manchester, Vermont, like, nearly three years ago and have not seen it again since. The stuff is spellbinding, all cinnamon, nutmeg and maple up front, followed by a smooth matliness wrapped in a vanilla bean. Big flavors, we know, but Winter Warmer is not as sweet or as spicy as it sounds. The entire ale drinks incredibly well, harmonious and subtle. Based in Boston (with a satellite brewery in Winston, Vermont), Harpoon brews Winter Warmer from November through January, so we wouldn't count on Taproom getting another keg after this one kicks. Get it while it lasts.
