"Can't wait for Benna's II to open up and for E's, Black 'n' Brew and Benna's to rumble on Passyunk Ave. Or maybe play intramural sports against each other or something."
Another restaurant is opening on the Avenue. You heard it here first: At 1600 South 11th Street in a Stuccoed building newly rehabbed with columned portico, French doors, and arched windows, expect Chiarella's Ristorante, an upscale Italian with views of the fountain. You might recognize the name from the Wildwood bistro or from the now-closed pizzeria on 17th & Shunk. Same family. A peek inside the multi-paned windows show a polished bar and two dining rooms swathed in warm earth tones. Tables and chairs are already in place, ready to be laid with table cloths and maybe some of the gourmet pizzas for which the Wildwood Chiarella's is known.
Tre Scalini should be in their new space by Thursday, the 25th, according to a sign in the old window. Whole Foods, we're waiting.

It's about time we get some great places to grab lunch in South Philly. So overdue. Thanks Adam for keeping us updated!
