Smooth as Silk

There's been cat-fights in the kitchen this past month at Silk City. Pete Dunmire. Dave Katz. Pete Dunmire. Applebee's slander. It's enough to make you forget how solid the food is at this revamped dining car. In the words of Miss Mary J., no more drama. Silk's dishes are cool without being cocky, cheeky without trying too hard. Get a load of those ribs, tender and Thai-glazed with hoisin and fish sauces and a sprinkling of cilantro. Yum. The Courier-Post has the rest of the details here.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philadelphia Style Magazine Offers Hedonistic Humanity at 4th Annual Dinner with Style, Benefiting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

Philadelphia, PA (September 24, 2007) -- Philadelphia STYLE Magazine will host its 4th annual Dinner with Style benefiting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on November 13, 2007. The event will be held at Sherman Mills’ Alexandra Hall in East Falls at 6pm.

Dinner with Style, presented this year by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), will feature forty of the region’s top restaurants—from Morimoto to Susanna Foo—and promises to be the culinary event of the year. At $300 per guest ($3600 per table of 12), chefs will personally prepare a four-course dinner—tableside— exhibiting their talents to the gastronomic delight of Philadelphia’s movers and shakers. In addition to hobnobbing over dinner with these masters of cuisine, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts promise to titillate even the most refined palate.

All proceeds of Dinner with Style support PAWS, the donor funded division of the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association (PACCA) which operates City’s highest volume animal shelter. PAWS partners include the ASPCA, the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and Buzzy’s Bow Wow Meow. With the support of charitable donations, PAWS has opened its first Center City Adoption Center in Old City. The Adoption Center provides thousands of animals with a chance at a loving home. Other PAWS programs include low cost spay/neuter and vaccination services and educational seminars. "The ASPCA is thrilled to lend our support to such a beneficial and entertaining event," adds Ed Sayres, President and CEO of the ASPCA. "It's exciting to see these culinary masters sharing their artistry and talent to creating a fantasy meal as a tribute to Philadelphia's companion animals."

As Dinner with Style continues to grow, Philadelphia Style Magazine hopes to exceed last year’s proceeds of nearly $125,000 with new chefs and a new venue. More space will allow designers like Jennifer Angelo to take their tablescapes and décor to the next level, guaranteeing a feast for the eyes. As Style brings back stars such as Mitch Prensky (Global Dish) “hot chef 2008” and Jayson Grossberg (Alphabet Soup), this year they will also welcome newcomers, Gerald Drummond (Morimoto) and Darryl Harmon (Waterworks). In the vast new venue that Sherman Mills offers, guests will experience Philadelphia’s finest food and drink.

Philadelphia Style Magazine Chief Operating Officer and Owner, Dana Spain-Smith, is confident that guests are in store for an evening to remember: “Dinner with Style provides the unique opportunity to make a tangible difference. We have the chance to save the lives of thousands of innocent animals while enjoying an once-in-a-lifetime dining experience with Philadelphia’s best chefs. With the overwhelming support of the ASPCA and other sponsors, I know this year will be bigger and better than before.”

Dinner with Style will gather oft-elusive celebrity chefs in one unique venue, showcasing the breadth and diversity of Philadelphia’s restaurant scene. Not only will it provide a more intimate look at the lives, secrets and talents of those often known by reputation alone but it is also a meeting of some of the region’s most influential politicians, philanthropists, business people, and socialites. With carte blanche on décor, menus, and spectacle, Dinner with Style will be a night of surprises, inevitably resulting in one of the most talked about parties of the year.

Individuals have the option of purchasing individual tickets ($300), tables of 12 ($3,600), or sponsoring the event. Two hundred twenty-five dollars of each ticket is tax deductible, and all proceeds will benefit PAWS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
